WordPress & Websites (New Course)

We’re pleased to say planning for our first online WordPress & Websites course is now underway.

Our web development parent section of the company has been building  bespoke sites since 1993, and several years ago switched to using the well developed WordPress platform. This provides massive amounts of flexibility whilst putting the site owners in control, without them needing to learn coding.

The Course

However, we regularly hear of new website owners somewhat overwhelmed by how much is involved, and this course will cover all the basic concepts to get you working, such as:

  • Introduction to WordPress and general website concepts
  • Posts and pages, writing good content
  • Inserting images (and image theory basics)
  • Choosing themes
  • Building menus
  • Adding widgets
  • Installing plugins
  • Users
  • Social integration
  • Website administration

The course is one-to-one (remotely), lasting for 12 sessions and include a years WordPress hosting. We envisage you will make this a project to launch your own website, rather than it just being a theory exercise.

Whilst there will be plenty of support and demonstration, students will be expected to work on their sites as homework, and activities for this will be given. Even though it will be your new website, you will be expected to complete the exercises and follow the course program, it isn’t a drop in web development support session (available from the web team separately).

Outcome

It is intended that by the end of the course you will have your own site up and running, and able to manage it on a day to day basis without needing support. This is likely to be just a basic start and your ideas will probably change with time so further support will be available from the main web admin team. Being WordPress you are free to move your website to another host at any time, though this can limit what support the admin team can provide.
