Beginners often ask this about computing skills.
Later, they ask, how much do I need to know?
Take a moment
- ask yourself
what can I use a computer for?
Nowadays most people use a computer (or tablet, phone, etc) to access the internet. And that’s it!
So they’re:
- Reading the news, getting the weather
- Using social media (eg Twitter, Facebook)
- Shopping
- Banking
These are the essential skills.
Practice builds confidence and ability, as well as making it all so much easier.
You’ll want to be able to do, easily & safely:
- Start your computer, your browser!
- Go to any webpage (maybe using bookmarks)
- Search for new things
- Follow links from one page to another
- Use tabs
- Write and reply to emails
- Communicate on social media
- Register & sign in to websites
- Shop & bank, pay bills
- Maybe watch a video, listen to music
- .. and enjoy it!
This is what we aim to achieve with our beginner’s courses.
For Work
In addition to the above
- creating documents (eg letters, reports, books etc)
- managing money or data records
- creating publicity material
Yes, there’s so much more, but that depends on your interests and needs.
