100R Screenshots (Screen-grabs)

A screen shot is an image of the entire computer screen, or part of it. They are a useful way of recording what you can see on screen.

You not normally need an extra application to make these, the facility is normally built in to the operating system.

In MS Windows (traditional)

  1. Use the PrntScn button (often top right area of the keyboard) to take a screengrab of the entire screen
  2. The image of the screen is held in memory (just like a Copy)
  3. Use Edit/Paste anywhere you want (document, email, etc)
    • (if you Copy anything else, you’ll loose the screenshot)

Windows Snipping Tool

More recently, Microsoft have provided the Snipping tool:

For Windows 10

  1. Press together
    Windows logo key + Shift + S
  2. Draw around the screen you want to capture
  3. Press Enter

For Windows 10

  1. Select Start
  2. enter snipping tool
  3. select Snipping Tool from the results
  4. see diagram below

For Windows 8.1 / RT 8.1

Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, select Search, enter snipping tool in the search box, and then select Snipping Tool from the list of results.

For Windows 7

  1. Select Start
  2. enter snipping tool in the search box
  3. select Snipping Tool from the list of results
