Scams
Going to any of the mainstream websites, high street banks or shops, news outlets, etc. are very unlikely to put you at any risk at all. Similarly when getting email, throw away any suspicious or unsolicited emails straightaway (just like you do with the post!).
Viruses & Infections
It’s important to protect your computer when you’re online, otherwise you could be at risk from viruses which could damage your computer or access personal information. They’re nothing to worry about if you have the right protection installed.
In most cases, you should use virus protection software. This software scans your computer regularly for signs of viruses or other unwanted files or programs and removes them. You can download virus protection for free from the internet. Some types of computer do not need (or have) anti-virus software.
