Using the Tag Cloud

The Tag Cloud is one of the strange features that came about around the advent of Web 2.0. This is probably why it has the fancy name of ‘cloud’, it being a fashionable term at the time.

Tags are important words especially relevant to that page, they are keywords. Keywords are used a great deal in searching online and in social media (where they are often called hashtags). For example, everything about email could simply be grouped under the keyword ’email’; everything about London under ‘London’, etc.

The Tag Cloud is simply a list of common topics on a website (or possibly a collection of). Larger type words mean there are more pages about a topic, smaller words means less pages. So in the example here on the right, there’s lots about ‘Beginner IT’ and ‘Programming’ but not so much about ‘phone’.

Its an easy find of finding content on the website when you are browsing around.

Selecting a word from the Tag Cloud will give you a page of search results, each one about that topic.
