Choosing a Laptop

This is a very hard question I am often asked

I have no simple answer, like so many things, you pay your money and make your choice. Price varies for so many reasons: a high price doesn’t mean the best value, a low price could still mean a decent machine. Second hand even more so, some real bargains can be found.

For many, a simple Chromebook is all they need for web based activities

Some pointers

You want a machine with the following values as high as possible:

• Processor GHz (varies depending on need, say 1.8GHz minimum)
• RAM GB (ideally 8, 4GB minimum)
• Hard disk for storage, over 128GB

Also consider

• screen size, brightness
• battery: removable, life, etc
• sockets, USB, HDMI etc
• Windows, Mac (Apple) or Chromebook, mainly
• antivirus software, MS Office on Windows (Mac and CB use online Office 365)
